تعتبر جزيرة سانتوريني أجمل جزر بحر إيجة، وقد تشكّلت من ثوران بركاني عنيف، السبب الذي أدّى إلى ظهور اسطورة أطلانطس، ويتكوّن ساحلها الشرقي بالكامل من سلسلة قرى صغيرة جاثمة على هضاب مرتفعة. تعد فيرا عاصمة الجزيرة متميزةً بموقعها المذهل على الجروف الصخرية المطلة على البحر، وتتشارك الشهرة مع معبد بارثينون كون أجمل الصور وأشهرها التي تمثل وتعرف اليونان التقطت فيهما. أما شوارع الجزيرة الضيقة فتمتلئ شوارعها بمتاجر الهدايا التذكاريّة، والمحلات البسيطة، والكثير من متاجر المجوهرات، كما تحتوي على كنيستين مدهشتين هما كنيسة الأرثوذوكس الإغريقي، وكاتدرائية القديس يوحنا المعمدان، بالإضافة إلى متحفٍ محليٍ صغير. تمتاز الحياة الليلية في فيرا بكونها ممتعة وغنية بالخيارات بوجود حانات ومطاعم كثيرة ومتنوعة، بالإضافة إلى بعض النوادي الليليّة؛ فالجزيرة بأكملها عبارة عن مشهد ساحر، ويبلغ ذروة نشاطه وأوج جماله عند المغيب. من علامات جمال سانتوريني أيضاً قرية أويا الصغيرة، التي تتشبث على جرف صخري ناهض إلى ارتفاع 300 متر فوق سطح البحر، ومتمتعةً بإطلالة على أجمل المشاهد اليونانية لغروب الشمس. تختلف الشواطئ في جزيرة سانتوريني كلياً عن الشواطئ الأخرى في اليونان بسبب مواصفاتها الجغرافيّة المميزة حيث تنتشر الحصى البركانية ذات اللونين الأحمر والأسود على سواحلها الشاطئية، وتعطي الجروف الصخرية المنحدرة أجواء ساحرة خاصّة بالمكان. فيما يتعلق بشواطئ الجزيرة فتختلف عن مثيلاتها اختلافاً تاماً، ويعد أشهرها الشاطئ الأحمر، بينما تشمل الشواطئ المشهورة الأخرى شاطئ بيريسا وكماري وبيريفولوس، وهي ما تجعلها حقاً من الوجهات السياحيّة المميزة. ستكتشف عند زيارة الجزيرة أن بعض قراها الرئيسية المبنية على سفح الجرف الصخري للفوّهة البركانيّة هي من أجمل المناظر الطبيعية التي ستراها في العالم، فترى المباني وكأنها تتحدّى الجاذبية بطريقة تشبّثها بالجرف الصخري، الذي تتكدس صخوره بدورها متراكبة على بعضها البعض مثل مكعبات السكر، ويكتمل الطبق برمال الشواطئ المتعددة الألوان كطبقة السكر التي تزين قالب الحلوى.
